Yesterday, I went with a friend to her hometown of Cornish, Maine. It is a small town on one of the main roads to the White Mountains. Years ago, almost everyone in town worked at the local woolen mill. Sorry to say, that mill has gone the way of most of the New England mills. Now, the town is trying to create a new identity. The main street is lined with antique stores, large and small. Also, lots of nice specially stores are starting up. One of these stores is the Barking Rose Quilt Barn. It is located off the town square, up the hill on School St.

The Barking Rose is a nice store, with lots of cotton and wool. It really is in the barn section of one of those lovely old Maine farmhouses. The yard is landscaped and planted beautifully, a true gardeners delight. The photo above was taken looking out the door of the shop. The shop owner’s husband had just brought out his restored truck, and we all agreed that it did look just right sitting there.

Of course, I found something I liked. Truth is, I love quilting fabric, and don’t have any problem at all, finding fabric for my stash. Yesterday, I was looking for a certain shade of tannish brown for my next quilt. When I got home, I found that it was the perfect match. Right now, I am hand-quilting a star patterned quilt made of blue and green batik on a white background. This one is going to take a while longer, but when it is done, I will post a photo of it.
