The three types of gaillardia that I have now are blooming. I bought Torchlight and Red Plume this summer to replace a red one I lost over the winter. They are taller that I would like, and next spring will be moved toward the back of the garden and staked.
I discovered this morning that Gaillardia is the state wildflower of Oklahoma, my home state. I was already gone by the time the state picked a wildflower, but do remember many of them growing in our pastures. Read here for the legend of the Indian Blanket Flower.
