indian blanket flower July 8, 2006

The three types of gaillardia that I have now are blooming. I bought Torchlight and Red Plume this summer to replace a red one I lost over the winter. They are taller that I would like, and next spring will be moved toward the back of the garden and staked.
I discovered this morning that Gaillardia is the state wildflower of Oklahoma, my home state. I was already gone by the time the state picked a wildflower, but do remember many of them growing in our pastures. Read here for the legend of the Indian Blanket Flower.

Gosh there are some lovely photos on your blog! So much bright colour in the flowers!

I like these flowers, but the *hot* colors don’t work so well with the rest of what I have planted.
