Wildlife two days in a row! But, this time it is close to home. That is a coyote sitting out in the middle of the hayfield, watching something. The local turkey flock had been in the yard half an hour before, so I am assume that it what the coyote was after.
I was working at my kitchen sink, about supper time when I glanced out to see it in the field. This is only the second one I have seen out of the woods in the day time. There is a busy road just in front of the coyote, so I was able to get outdoors and walk over behind my neighbor’s house without alarming him. The click of the camera of the first shot must of been loud enough to be heard. With a quick look toward me, he was off to the woods. The second shot was one of three I took before he made cover.
We have had coyotes in our area for several years. Reading articles about them on the internet suggests that the large deer population is responsible. I think they may of come because the wild turkeys have been reintroduced in Maine.
Sometimes, in the winter when I am shoveling at night, I can hear the coyotes singing down in the woods. That happens mostly when the moon is full. We have had no problems with pets in our local neighborhood, although I did one time find a half eaten wild rabbit in my garden. I enjoy seeing wildlife, and the only way I shoot them is with a camera.
