hermit cookie recipe November 28, 2006

NancyBea asked me for this recipe, so I am posting it here, in case anyone else would like to try it.

Hermit Cookies (may be from an old watkins cookbook)

I/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons milk
1 3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup nuts 1/2 cup raisins

1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and milk, mix well.
2. Add flour, spices and baking powder, raisins, and nuts. Mix well.
3. Drop by teaspoonfuls on to greased cookie sheet.
4. Bake at 325º for 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Cool on rack.

Hey, thanks for the recipe! They sound delicious and my cookie-baking blood heats up as the days get shorter.

Thanks for posting the recipe. I will try it, since I have never tasted a hermit cookie! They look simple but really good.
