deerstream

This small stream winds through the woods behind the house. Because it never completely freezes, it is another watering hole for wildlife. I took these photos last winter, during one of the times our snow cover was gone. The second shot was taken near the bottom of the first photo, using the close up setting on my nikon coolpix.

like rose quartz crystal
a poem forms below surface
rises to be polished

This haiku was taken from a poem I wrote on the same subject almost ten years ago. The quartz came from up around Newry, Maine.

This photo was taken in northeastern Oklahoma, by my niece, Susan. The storm hit the area hard. Most of my relatives lost power, some for days. Aside from lots of tree damage, they survived fine. My nephew, Zach was out of school a week, but I doubt that he was too upset about that.

We had a few more inches of snow during the night. After I did some shoveling, I went for a walk down in the woods with my camera. I didn’t see any deer tracks, but the rest of the forest creatures had been busy making tracks in the new snow. This shot is of an old road way, the opening to the woods almost grown closed.
