smalltree

Does anyone recognize this small tree, or bush? It is smooth-barked and kind of twisted. There is quite a lot of this under the pine trees, but none get very tall.

raspberry

This is just a shot of a raspberry cane. The colors of the new growth drew me to take a closer look. This time of year, I could see all the birds living and feeding under the vines. In a couple weeks, they will be under the leaf canopy. Towhees and thrushes are common here.

bentbirch

In the birches overhead, I see and hear all sorts of warblers and of course chickadees, and the posse that travels with them. A few weeks ago, I heard and saw a cardinal singing at the top of a pines in background of this shot. This is the first year they seem to be abundant in our area. There are new leaves on this birch, it went over in the storm last month, but did not break. Tangled and messy, but a good bird habitat.
