two goldfinches, one hawk June 5, 2007

First thing, notice that the sun is finally out! Or it was, it is raining right now, but that is okay, I got lots of gardening done in the few hours of sun, and even had a nice walk. As I poked along the old road down back, looking for dragonflies, a hawk began to make noise, kind of a whistle, but not quite. I must have interrupted whatever it was up to, because it started gliding back and forth across the road, from treetop to treetop. I moved, it moved, several times. Now I know how a rabbit or squirrel feels when they see that big shadow pass overhead. I snapped a couple of shots and moved on, and it quieted down. The second shot was against the sky, but you can see the body shape well in it. I think it might be a rough legged hawk, but my guide said they are usually silent. I know all you birders can tell me what it is!
The second shot is a funny one I caught as I passed the garden. These goldfinches know there is something good in this feeder, but not how to get it. Looks like the are discussing what to do.
