update on pink queen anne’s lace July 24, 2007

I went out in the fog this morning to see if the lace opened pink. There is a just a little color around the edges, but most of it is white. It did pick up a milkweed bug though, and did you know they have little heart shaped patterns on their backs?
Everything outdoors was covered with tiny droplets of water. I snapped this shot of the fennel on the way in. Anything with textures and patterns always catches my eye.
Two things that happened on the weekend that I forgot to mention yesterday. The first was seeing two bluebirds in my backyard late in the evening. I see bluebirds about once a summer, but we don’t have them in our area, and I don’t know anyone around here who has them nesting. My photos attempts were not worth showing. The second was funny - later in the evening I heard the mockingbird raising a fuss in the yard. When I turned on the porch light and looked out, I saw the the bird was trouncing a small fox we have had in our neighborhood this summer. The fox was not fighting back, and finally made her escape out into the field behind the house. My friend had seen the fox chase a bird in her yard the day before, so guess the mama bird was getting even.
