the tomatoes are ripening August 8, 2007

We had had rain and fog for the last two days, so didn’t spend time out in the garden. This afternoon though, I could see red tomatoes on some of the bushes, so I went out to check. The Totems, which are actually patio tomatoes, had the most ready to pick. They live out in the garden now, after becoming too top heavy for the pots I had them in. I got seven off one plant and five off another. The Cherry tomatoes are just behind, and the third one I planted, Gardeners Delight, are just beginning to turn color. I haven’t tasted the Totem tomatoes yet, but they really look good.

Remember when I planted the seeds for the “blue” garden? What a disappointment that was! Only three things were really blue, these, bachelor buttons and a really dark flower I couldn’t identify. The rest were white, purple, pink and yellow.

Gorgeous tomatoes you have there and such great numbers, not to mention the yummy photo! What a clever idea - the blue garden. Will you try it again?
Those are some great looking tomatoes! A lovely photo of the forget-me-not, as well.
Sandy:
Your tomatoes look great! Also, that is really blue! Is it Anchusa? What do you think of that plant as far as growth and vigor? It is biennial isn’t it? How tall?
Those tomatoes are looking good. I can’t wait to get tomatoes (from the farmer’s market) to have my first toasted tomato sandwich.
Sorry about the disappointing blue garden.
I am having a tomato sandwich for lunch, Zoey.
Christine, I will make my own mix of blues next year!
layanee, I think it is forget-me-nots.
Thanks, Connie!
Your tomato plants look wonderfully healthy. Those blue flowers are stunning! I would like to try a blue-themed garden someday, too.
I wish I had tomatoes like this! They look delicious. The forget-me-nots resemble anchusa although the leaves of anchusa are hairy. I love finding an anchusa coming up when I least expect it.
Sandy, I’m so far behind with blogging.
I have eaten at least 8 tomato sandwiches since last weekend. Home-grown tomatoes are treasures! I chop them and pile them high on salads. Only a few more weeks left for tomato season…
Love blue flowers!
