meadowsweet

On a walk this morning before starting my garden work, I decided that from now I would photograph all the wildflowers I don’t recognize, then learn about them. The first two are in the second photo. I took the first shot just because I like this plant. Meadowsweet reminds me of Easter hats, and weddings. My wildflower guide says it can be white or pink, but this is the only color we have around here.

I took this photo along the road at the edge of the woods. The soil is very sandy and all sorts of small flowers grow there. The name of the blue flower is Blue Curls, and it is a member of the mint family. When I Googled it, I found that some people grow it in their gardens. Since it is blue,  maybe I will try to gather some seeds and start a plant for my blue garden next year. I see that it is endangered in some states, so won’ t move a plant.

The yellow one is called Pineweed. It is in the St Johnswort family, and is closely related to a southern plant called Nits-and-Lice. Now there is an ugly name! I think I would call that one Southern Pineweed.
