american copper and common ringlet butterflies August 23, 2007

My attempt to draw more butterflies to the garden didn’t go as planned. I did get lots more butterflies, but not as many varieties as I expected. My garden was swamped with monarchs, sulphurs, white cabbage butterflies, and american coppers, and I did have several swallowtails, an american lady, and a red admiral early in the season. But not anything like I had last year, when I wasn’t trying to draw them.
Here are two shots I took this week. Yes, I have posted copper already this year. And, I think I have a shot of a monarch perched on every plant in the garden, and half of the wild things in the field! The second shot, a common ringlet, is a bit less common this year. Oh well, I will try again next spring. All of these will go well on the butterfly calendars I am making for Christmas.

They are beautiful photos as usual!
I have never seen a Common Ringlet – it is beautiful. I love the colours. It looks so delicate. The one black spot showing on the wing is really attractive.
Your butterfly calendars will be beautiful.
These are both new butterflies for me. Nice!!!
I’m not seeing these dear creatures. (Time out for a mini-temper tantrum: Wahhhh.) OK. All better ;0)
We love to take pictures of butterflies. Yours are great.
Great photos, as usual. Your Common Ringlet is one I haven’t seen down here. I’ve only seen about eight varieties so far this summer. There’s a lady in Missouri, Sherry (Q’s Corner on my blogroll) that has had 37 different species visit her yard this year! I think we could all learn something from her
)
Ringlets are sort of a northern specialty – be glad to have them, common as they are!
Lovely photos, as always.
No one could ever be bored with looking at these marvelous photos of yours, Sandy. They make me instantly happy, and I’m learning about a lot of new-to-me insect species. Awesome, as always.
that’s a lot of species of butterflies – even if you had hoped for more! Stunning photos!
Wonderful photos. Even if the commom ringlet is not as vividly marked as the American copper I like the photo better.
