shadowdarner

After three days of clouds and rain, I was glad to see bright skies today. I decided to take a walk in the woods just to see what I could find. Going several days without taking photos is very unusual for me. I love to walk in the woods when the wind is blowing, and boy, is it blowing today!

The sun was in and out all morning, making the woods an alternately bright then very shadowy place. I got a shot of a turkey and her half grown chick, but the light was very dim, so if I ever use that shot, I will have to do something very creative with it. This very large (at least three inches) dragonfly kept teasing me. It would streak over my head, then disappear in the trees. Finally I saw it touch down on the old roadway. The background could be better, but you can get a good look at what I found to be a Shadow Darner, a perfect capture for a shadowy day. I found this one to be very interesting, so am adding an address with lots of information. It is another late fall flier, and one that can regulate it’s temperature to fly in colder weather. You can read about it here.
