winterberry

The winterberry bush across the street is loaded with berries this year. The turkeys make this one of their first stops each morning. As you can see, they start around the bottom of the bush, then when the lower branches are bare, fly up in to the top of the bush. We have a flock of around 30 turkeys this fall. Most of the day, they can be found in the hayfield or walking through our backyards. At night, they go in the woods to roost in a large pine.

forestfloor

The forest floor was bursting with toadstools and mushrooms this past Sunday when I took a walk. These are some of the brighter ones I saw along the trail. The darkness of the woods at this time of the year, and so many growths springing up suddenly was kind of spooky. I think I have been watching way too much sci-fi!

The moon is closest to the earth in it’s rotation this month. I wanted to try for a shot of it but last night’s efforts to get a decent shot of it did not go well. When I opened the shades this morning, there it was. I had just time to grab my camera and get outdoors before it slid behind the trees. This was taken just after 7 am, eastern time.
