chipmunk

My husband’s parents live up north aways in the woods. Being surrounded by trees, they are in a perfect place to see wildlife. Chipmunks dart along the old rock walls, and pop up and down in the yard like jack in the boxes. It is not unusual while sitting on the long farmer’s porch at the front of the house to share space with a couple of chipmunks, maybe a woodpecker, and endless chickadees. This guy popped up in front of me in the back yard. Doesn’t look afraid, does he?

redsquirrel

This red squirrel was rustling in the leaves as I walked along the driveway. All colors of squirrels can be seen, on the ground, in the trees, and at the feeders. A huge flock of crows fussed from the treetops while I was out with the camera. My mother in law told me that 20 or so came to eat each day. I guess I interrupted their dinner hour! I didn’t get a shot of them, but the noise coming out of the trees was hard to miss. Next time we go up, the leaves will be off, so will capture a shot of them then. By that time, even more birds will be around, so expect to hear much more about life in the woods.
