winterberry

The winterberry bush across the street is loaded with berries this year. The turkeys make this one of their first stops each morning. As you can see, they start around the bottom of the bush, then when the lower branches are bare, fly up in to the top of the bush. We have a flock of around 30 turkeys this fall. Most of the day, they can be found in the hayfield or walking through our backyards. At night, they go in the woods to roost in a large pine.

For me it is quite an amazing sight! (no wild turkey in the South of France) I enjoy seeing it.

I have seen very full winterberry bushes this year also. A banner year. Love the turkeys…they CAN fly!

That is quite a sight! How cool that you’ve captured it :-)

No wild turkeys here, sadly, but lots of pheasants. My winterberries are small and modestly fruiting, but they were only planted last year and this. I must go down the shore and see how the colour display is there.

A large flock of cedar waxwings usually descends upon our big bush across the street. I have watched them strip the whole bush within an hour – usually just before I want to pick a few branches for my winter display in the barrels.

Look at all those! We have them here too but they prefer being closer to the lake.

Sandy,
How neat that you captured them up in the bush. I rarely see turkeys flying so this was quite a treat for me to see.
