oldbottles

Seeing that we had a really heavy frost yesterday morning, I had to take my camera out for a look. I took several shots in the garden, but this one, taken on the garden stand looked the frostiest. Since the field behind the house was plowed, I have been finding little bits of treasure from the past. These bottles are tiny, the one in front is barely over an inch, and the other maybe one and three quarters of an inch tall. Maybe they were medicine bottles, or some kind of flavoring, I don’t know. They will eventually get cleaned up and stored with my other old bottles.

The squarish one on the right looks like the old enamel paint bottles for model planes. It almost looks like you dredged these in kosher salt. Very pretty images, Sandy.

Isn’t it amazing what one can find in an old, plowed field. One has to wonder about the story behind these old bottles; how did they get there, what was in them, who threw them away? So many questions.

There is some sort of residue in the small bottle, so it could have held enamel. That means though, it isn’t so old as I thought.

I know the farm that was originally here had a greenhouse. And, now I know where. There is section of crushed terra cotta aways from the house site. Also, broken remnants of all sorts of pottery and bottles show where the bottle dump was.

Sandy, you are truly an artist. You and your camera have definitely bonded.

We found dairy bottles dated pre-40’s buried in our MD yard which was originally a dairy farm. We still have them - somewhere in the attic.

Treasures… wondering about where they came from is a big part of the fun. Wow, look at that frost. Lovely capture.

Bottle dumps are fascinating…there was one at the house next door to our home one place we lived, and I used to go over there rummaging through sometimes, just to see what was there. I think I acquired several old mason jars (the ones with the glass lids) that way–and still have them.
Do you know, we still haven’t had a real good frost? Just that one little one last week. The temperature flirts with freezing but not quite. Maybe tonight…
