red barn quilt- no stitching required November 24, 2007

I took this shot in the fall when we were on the way to New Hampshire. The building shape put me in mind of the schoolhouse quilt pattern. Today, I decided to use my Corel program to see if I could make anything that looked like a quilt with the barn. First, I put the photo through the watercolor filter to make it softer, than duplicated it enough times to make a quilt. Behind the blocks, I tried several colors before I found the look I wanted.
Then, I used the GIMP program to clothify the photo, and to add a shadow. The whole thing took less than half and hour, and was fun to do. This would be a great way to test out a new pattern with different color combinations.

This image is awesome…I can see it somehow painted or printed on rustic wood in the repetitive pattern you have.
very nice, Sandy. Happy Holidays!
Oh, that’s just wonderful! I could see making a quilt of this pattern–if I was more handy with sewing, that is!
What a pretty quilt this would make!
Oh, that is nice. You have such wonderful photographs on your site!
it would make such a warm and cozy quilt! One would never tire of the rich colors.
Thanks for sharing the techniques - I will have to go try this technique.
Ooooh, Zoey’s gonna have a ball with this one! Very clever, Sandy. It looks like it could be the front of a Christmas card.
Very cool…
Thanks for the good idea, Giddy. I am going to try to do a Christmas quilt next!
That is so cool, Sandy. I love the barn and the tree that add such a cool contrast with the red. It is a great idea! You always do such neat things with photographs!
That would make a wonderful quilt. What fun!
