nuthatch

These little birds are two of my regulars at the feeders. When I go out to add more suet or food, they just shuffle up the tree and wait. The nuthatch in the top photo perched just over my head, watching to see if I did everything right. It is not quite as friendly as a chickadee, but definitely getting there.

downy

The woodpecker is still nervous when I am around. It goes high in the trees and makes little beeping sounds like a like a Fed X truck backing into the driveway. I don’t take it personally, the tiny downy does the same when a larger woodpecker flies in from the woods.

The weather so far this year has not been too bad, but that is starting to change. We didn’t get out of the 20’s today, and expect snow and sleet for the next few days. I think my feeders are going to be busier any time now.

Remember the eagle I spotted here last month? I guess it was not from away, as they say here in Maine, but a new addition to our neighborhood. We see it in the air all the time now, but haven’t discovered where it is nesting.
