But that is a good thing! My next project will be a basket pattern using a collection of “blues” for the baskets. I took this shot today to use on a birthday card for my sister. A photo enhanced with the watercolor filter in the Corel program, then printed on matte paper makes a really neat looking card.
By the way, I made those baskets several years ago. The small one is the shape of heart.

Have you ever seen an animal disappear just as they stepped off the road, into the wooded shadows? Have you ever blinked, and lost sight of a deer? Strange, isn’t it?

See that little red bush down in the left lower corner of the photo? I have been wondering what is is for a long time, and finally got around to looking it up. Could it be Red Osier Dogwood? It is supposed to me native here in Maine, and is the only red stem bush I could find in my guides.
There are several bushes like this in the field across the street from my house. I don’t think it came from a homestead planting. You can see what an attractive bush it is, and the birds and butterflies seem to gather there.
How about it Jodi, Layanee, and the rest of you, what do you think? Wish I had a good summer shot of the leaves, but here is a close up of the stems.
sunrise over southern Maine January 26, 2008

We are having a winter of beautiful sunrises up here in Maine. I haven’t seen this much color in the sky since the 1970’s, before the air was cleaned up. But, I guess that is dating me! This is actually three shots of the skyline stitched together, looking slightly southeast from my yard.
a few words about violets January 24, 2008

I have a Old Farmer’s Almanac calendar hanging above my sewing table. My friend Hazel got it for me at Christmas. It is neat because it has so many little interesting facts about things I am interested in. The page for January features African Violets. Until today, I did not know they are also called Saintpaulia after the man who discovered them in Kenya in 1892. He was the Baron Walter von Saint-Paul. After learning that, I found more information about them here. I am thinking that I would like to add a true blue and a yellow plant to my collection. The photos here are the same plant, but taken with different cameras. I modified the second shot using the cartoon filter in the GIMP program. It will look printed in a smaller size on some linen card stock I have.
