three crows in snow January 5, 2008

While I was having coffee in my neighbor’s kitchen the other day, I looked out her window to see my three crow buddies checking out her feeders. The crows don’t usually come in that close, as her feeders are within ten feet of the house, and seemed a bit nervous. Her birdbath is over two feet tall, so you can see how much snow we have on the ground right now. This shot was taken through a window screen and kind of dull, so I brighten it up, and put it through just a light dose of the cartoon filter in the GIMP program. I will probably use this shot for my father-in-law’s birthday card next month. I never run out of shots for cards for women, but have a harder time with men’s cards. This has just the right look for a guy card, and he enjoys watching birds.

Great shot! I know how difficult it is to get up close enough to the crows. We feed our flock on a pretty regular basis, so they are getting a wee bit less nervous, but I still can’t get a good picture of them.
Awesome shot!
Counting Crows
One for sorrow,
two for joy,
three for a girl,
four for a boy…
Beautiful shot!
Oh wow. I love your photography. I hope you don’t mind my saying so. I also came to say thanks for the email. I am sorry you didn’t leave a comment on my blogger birds blog. I did not know you needed an ID to leave a comment there.
I also have a flickr account and am in the process of uploading my photos there. I have some 22,000 photos so probably won’t get them uploaded in this lifetime.
I have a category or a list of birds already posted if you go or get there you can have a look at those. Thanks again.
This turned out great. I love the contrasts The crows almost become like negative space in the snow.
I’m glad to see someone else besides me appreciates crows. We have half a dozen or so who hang out around here, sharing the feeders with the assorted other brid friends, and I just LOVE watching and listening to them. I have two metal crows made by a local metalworker too, for those days when I don’t see ‘our’ crows!
beautiful shot, love the contrasts! I also like crows, very intelligent birds.
That is indeed a very nice crow picture (very ominous or moody)… isn’t a flock of crows called a murder?
Don
Yes, Don, I have heard that word used, wonder where it came from?
Please allow me to post your beautiful photo of three crows in the snow on my website.
I wrote a poem a few years back that I hope will complement your photo in words and spirit. If you choose to grant permission, I’ll link the photo back to your blog.
Thank you for your art!
