a favorite tree February 1, 2008

I walk past this tree all the time, and quite often, aim my camera at it. Unlike the tall White Pine which makes up a good deal of the woods behind our house, the pitch pine is small and spunky. It’s limbs look like they have grown on top of a mountain, or on a harsh shore. When I see this tree, I think how like it exemplifies life in the north where a person hunkers down and hangs on during the winter, and gets get stronger, as time goes by.These shots were not taken today. This morning sky is dark and dreary, and we have a storm on the way, one of those combination deals, rain/sleet/snow, along the coast, and a foot of snow inland. We live not too hard from the ocean, so will most end up with rain, after a period of messy slush. The shot below was taken a couple of days after a heavy snow storm last month. I really doubt there will be any nice shots on this gray day, but then you never know.
