northern orioles and a tangerine May 12, 2008

I always hear orioles before I see them. This guy was in the yard yesterday morning, so I quickly sliced a tangerine and put it out on the garden stand. In about two minutes he was there. He spent day making trips back and forth to the garden stand from the apple tree. I spent a lot of the day trying to get a good shot of him from behind a large pine tree just this side of the garden.

The photo below was taken this morning, he was back and brought a friend this time. I thought it was a female until I checked my Audubon bird book. You can’t tell so much from this shot, but another photo I took at the same time showed the one on the right holding down the tangerine with one foot.

I want birdies like that in my garden – how lovely
(We dont get them in the UK)

Karen
beautiful. The tangerines are a perfect match!
I love seeing all the different views of your garden stand. Those orioles really pop against the gray wood. Pretty.
What a great shot with the orange of the tangerines matching the feathers on those lovely birds!
The orange matches his beautiful color.
Grand shots!
Sandy, I’d do a cartwheel if I saw an Oriole visit. You are very lucky – glad you had a tangerine handy!
This post is a real treat. I’m with Mary and the cartwheel – I can almost see that little foot holding down the fruit.
Sandy, what a delightful series!
Wonderful, perfect shots! Gorgeous color!
I love that the Orioles are orangeier than the tangerine.
what beautiful birds and they look perfect with the tangerines
I had one stop by a couple of years ago, but haven’t seen one since. I’ll have to purchase some oranges at the store, just in case they stop by again.
Sandy … I’m going to have to show hubby these pictures .. he won’t believe how ORANGE these birds truly are ! .. You have taken amazing pictures .. we don’t have these beauties here but I wonder if we put just the right oranges out ? maybe ?
It’s fun trying to capture a good image, isn’t it, but sometimes frustrating? You did very well. Lovely pics!
I hope we see some Orioles soon. We usually have a few show up. I’d better buy some oranges and put out the Oriole feeder! Have you tried grape jelly?
I can relate to spending quite a long time at it
