While looking for wild flowers at the edge of the woods yesterday morning, I caught sight of two little bodies waddling down the path in front of me. The wind was blowing the other way, and they did not seem aware of me. At first, I thought they were porcupines, but as I got closer, I saw that they were just woodchucks. I have never thought of them as forest creatures, but there they were.

A bit later, I came across one of them again. It was standing perfectly still the whole time I was near. Now I am wondering if animals deliberately choose a camouflaged place to hide. And, I am wondering how often I look right at animals without seeing them. This one was still standing like a statue when I left it alone.
