Overrun these days with wildflowers instead of soldiers, Fort Popham, located in Phippsburg, Maine is a lovely place to visit. Don’t forget your camera and your walking shoes if you go there. The beach is close by and the grounds are pretty. To read more about the history of this fort, go here or here.

I love that stone-arch passageway.
Neat pictures. We visited there years ago, so I guess it’s about time for another visit.
Fabulous pictures Sandy! I’ve come back twice to look at them again.
Don’t those stone walls make a beautiful backdrop for flowers, or anything green, for that matter. Looks like a great place to spend an afternoon!
Yes. I love old stone walls, and like them even better covered with lichen and moss.
Gorgeous place. I knew there was a reason I wanted to visit Maine.
I love exploring old forts. The stonework is beautiful, and you’ve captured the ‘old’ feeling well. I love the passageway pic! What a beautiful color that wild rose is.
I absolutely love that shot through the archways! I love stone and old wood. Add a little splash of color from foliage or blooms, and you’ve got perfection!
