Last Saturday, a day of perfect weather, my husband and I took a ride through the White Mountains in New Hampshire. We left Scarborough about noon, and headed across western Maine toward the town of North Conway. The east end of the Kancamagus Highway starts just west of of Center Conway. The first two mountains shots were taken heading west on the Kancamagus. The river, I think it is the Swift, runs along the highway for quite a ways.

Hikers probably know the names of these peaks, I don’t, but I love riding along the tops of mountains.

Although this water is cold, lots of people were in it. This spot wasn’t busy because there was no place to park. I got this shot out of the van window.

I think this was one of the spots where the downhill grade was 9%.

This was the view looking west toward Vermont after we got off the Kancamagus and turned north on 93 at Lincoln.

We turned back toward the east on 302. This is the Mount Washington Inn, taken from the road.

Recognize Mt. Washington? That is the cog railway track running up the mountain, and way up top, the dark puff of smoke is the train.

When we stopped for coffee in North Conway on our way home, this cedar waxwing landed right in front of the car. Didn’t it pose pretty?
