This is the first hairstreak that I have photographed. It was in the garden the last week, while I was weeding. They are much smaller than I imagined. I ran into the red spotted purple down by the blackberries, but did not see it on the vines. Most of the butterflies I have seen this year were in good shape, unlike last summer. I wonder it the weather this year has been less hard on them?

I particularly love the composition of the first photo, the butterfly off centre, looking as though its just about to fly off, giving the phto a real sense of energy…
We’ve had fewer butterflies this summer, both is species and number. It will be interesting to see how the migrating Monarch numbers are like this fall (through Point Pelee). Both this summer and last have been exceptionally dry; wonder if this plays a part. Anyway, your beautiful photos help make up for things!
Beautiful captures, both of them.
As soon as the Joe Pye Weed is in full bloom butterflies will be all over it. They put on quite a show and I’m anxious to see how many varieties I’ll be able to spot. I’ll be looking for the ones you have so beautifully photographed.
I stalked a red spotted purple for what seemed forever before he stopped on a low leaf where I could photograph him.
The hairstreak is beautiful. What lovely blends of blue, silver and black, and that a perfect pale outline.
Great butterfly pictures. The colors are so neat.
Ah … what lovely butterflies. The FIRST one is amazingly colored … just beautiful.
Hugs and blessings,
