I have been waiting for this aster out in the tall grass to bloom for over a week. The shot above was taken on the 25th of August. The golden glow in the background is goldenrod. By the time I took the second shot below, the goldenrod had almost faded away. This is one of the plants I started a long time ago from seed. There used to be several colors out in the grass. My favorite, dark purple, was also the favorite of the deer. Those plants finally disappeared. There was also a beautiful pink in the seed collection. That one is has been gone a long time, too. I would like to find a new source for wild aster seed, so if anyone has a good one, please let me know.

Asters speak of fall to me.

I love the colour combination of asters and goldenrod.

Those are the same (or similar) flowers I posted yesterday — the fields are full of them this time of year and they’re sooo pretty. :)

Reminds me of fall as well. Great shots!

I love Asters too, they are a wonderful fall flower. They would look great with Goldenrod as Amanda suggested. Purple & Yellow is a great combo.

Lovely photos! i can’t wait for my asters to bloom. This year I’m resolved to figure out how many varieties have self-seeded themselves in the garden.

If you find out where to get the seeds, please post the address. Asters are beautiful.

Asters & Goldenrod make a great combo, as the Goldenrod flowers pick up the disc flower color of the Asters. I think the trick is to find early blooming N.A. Asters or late blooming Goldenrod. One seed source I know of is Prairie Moon Nursery http://www.prairiemoon.com.

I was wondering what that gold was in the background. What a great clear photo.

These are the same asters that I have just beginning to bloom. I removed a lot from my gardens because they look so weedy at the bottom 2 feet, but I love them when they flower.

These are New England asters. They grow everywhere here wild. But years ago, I started a lot from seed to get the darker colors. The problem is that deer like them, too.

That is golderod in the background. Looking out this summer, I see yellow!
