Hey Jan, this shot is for you!
Yesterday was our first really warm, sunny day this spring. My husband and I took a ride over to the Portland Headlight in Cape Elizabeth in the late afternoon. The place was packed with other people with the same idea. The trails were busy, but I got my share of shots off the cliff trail. This is a stitched version of four shots taken fairly close to the light. Click on photo for details.

Like so many, I have loved and collected lighthouse for years. I have this particular image in a framed jigsaw puzzle. Portland Head is one of my favorites.

I absolutely LOVE lighthouses! :) Maine seems to have some of the most beautiful ones in the U.S. I have gone to the top of a couple of lighthouses, years ago. It was breathtaking to take in the views and consider what it was like to live in these structures, many years ago.

Thanks for sharing this great photo Sandy.

wow- I just happened to stumble over here today, Sandy! Thanks for the ‘dedication’ ;-)

I have several framed pieces of the Portland Headlight. One is an oil painting by someone who lived near us when we lived in Maine…in the ’70’s….and it still looks lovely. It was my mom’s but she gave it to me. I have another piece that we purchased from a photographer while visiting the Lobster Shack in C.E. a few years ago. (I used to work at the L.S. while in high school!). I just love the coast of Maine and the lighthouse is a favorite.

Have a great day, Sandy!

I love this lighthouse… they are one of my favorite things that I used to paint. Have a great weekend! Roxanne

I was thinking about this photo over the weekend and realised why it seemed so familiar when I first saw this post. I haven’t actually visited this lighthouse but my mom painted this same scene years ago, but the photos were taken from the other side (front of the buildings, coming in from the water). She painted the spring and summer versions of this lovely scene. Sadly, wasn’t able to get prints of the fall and winter, to complete the four seasons. But the two I do have are treasures to me.

Thought you might like to read this Sandy.

I painted that lighthouse for a customer as a commission. I knew it immediately when I saw the photo. The lighthouses of that area are all so amazing.
