This is a small portion of a photo that I snapped out the van window with my Nikon d200, as we passed. I had been looking for herons, but didn’t see any, so was glad to get a shot at this egret. it was quite far away, and done so quickly that it was a little blurry. Just the kind of photo I like to fiddle with! I painted it in Photo Studio, textured it (sandstone) in Corel, and then framed it in iWorks pages using a background from Keynote. The marsh is still dressed in winter colors, but I like that for this shot.

I thought I saw a Snowy Egret the other day, but when I looked it up, learned it was a Great Egret – apparently the main difference is that Snowies have dark-coloured beaks, while Great Egrets have a bright yellow (I posted an image of my Egret on my blog, too!).
I was really great watching him fish for eels in the marsh – and he was so bold, too. I’m used to Blue Herons, which (as you probably know) are far more wary of humans.
No herons, but no (r)egrets! Sorry, I can’t help myself sometimes.
Oh, this reminds me of the Sandhill crane I saw yesterday morning… I wish that I had had my camera… but she is ingrained in my memory. Your marsh is beautifuI and I love what you did wwith the photograph! Roxanne
Excellent result for a photo taken from a moving vehicle. There is the feel of an impressionist painting here.
This photo reminds me of a favorite Windham hill artist – now I can’t remember which one, but the piece is called Egrets. This is so lovely, Sandy.
