bee balm

Every week or so, the garden takes on new colors. The bee balm I bought at Walmart is blooming now, and is much nicer than I expected it to be. I have two other colors, red and fuchsia, that I am not all that fond of. This new plant has two colors, and I love it!

It is very pretty and actually looks very similar to the wild Monarda that grows here. I have tried for years to get red beebalm established in my Michigan gardens with no success. I find it strange because it grew like a weed where I grew up.
That is what I want. Next spring I will get seeds to start that for my back field.
So lovely! I had no idea bee balm came in different colors – ours is the red one. These are gorgeous.
My neighborhas raspberry colored bee balm, and it is tall like this plant. My red ones are only 2 feet tall, at best.
I have all three Monarda in my garden and the butterflies seem to prefer the red.
I don’t see so many butterflies on either of my colors, but do seem lots of hummingbirds. It is probably because I have a butterfly garden close by.
Beautiful photo. I love the name ‘Bee Balm’. I must look to see if we have it here in the UK.
It is also called monarda, so check that out, too. I hope you have it.
I think the name Bee Balm is nice – I wonder if it is “special” to bees for some reason, more than other flowers that is.
I find mauves, and purples are always pretty in the fall – a nice contrast to the autumn colours of leaves.
Same here, Brenda.
We have two patches of bee balm that grow wild on the farm. The same color as this one. I did not know they grew in other colors. I look forward to seeing the patches bloom each summer.
So would I!
Are the light and dark blooms in the photo both from the same plant? Both are pretty, but i love the dark in the background. Very nice photo!!
It seems to be, unless there were two plants in the pot. The photo on the tag so all shades of pink.
I love the different colors: I’ve only seen the light one.
Well, this is the first time I have ever seen the pale pink. If any other colors so up, I will mention it.
Oh Sandy how I love this bee balm shot. See I had no idea it came in other colors but then as much as I love flowers and have started photographing them much much more. Well, I don’t know that much about flowers. Carol
You know me, Carol. I love the wild ones.I just found two kinds of seed in my PineTree Seed catalog. Next spring, I will have more colors.
Anyone interested in bee balm seeds? Check this out. And, get your self a catalog while you are at it. I have had good luck with Pinetree Seeds.

The light pink is soft and pretty. It does look like the color of the wild one. I’ve ended up with some really pretty colors, created by the pollinators I’m assuming. My favorite is the rasberry wine shade. The hummers are especially fond of the red which spreads like crazy in the Lilac garden.
I adore the minty scent of these plants.
Beautiful shot, Sandy.
I just found out this variety is called Lemon Mint. And yes, it comes in several shades on the same plant. When I go outdoors this morning, I am going to smell the leaves!
Very pretty and colourful
All my flower colors are mixed together. I have to admit that some combinations look better than others.
Very very nice. I had never heard of bee balm before this. I will have to look into it for next summer!
